Thank you to everyone who joined our webinar! We were delighted to have 50 participants engage in such fruitful discussions during the breakout sessions.

Workshop participants viewed presentations regarding the EU Strategic Research and Innovation agenda on health and climate change (R Araujo, DG Research and Innovation) and, from the INTERCAMBIO project, systematic living reviews on construction workers (K Straif), and waste management/recycling workers (K Broberg), the importance of norms and values for policy (S Svensson), sustainability and health care workers (A Burdorf), results of a stakeholder survey (M Njoroge), and of the Single Planet Health and Environment (SPHERA) consortium (M Kogevinas) then participated in more in depth discussions in breakout rooms regarding stakeholder perspectives for new research needs in the field.

The overall messages of the discussion were that:

  •    Challenge-driven research (not only excellence) isessential, workers are concerned about how their jobs and tasks may be affected by climate change.
  •    Just transition is a framework everyone can agree on.
  •    It is important to involve social partners in research and extend outreach for participation to companies and workers.

The active participation and insights made the event a real success, and we will organize future events soon to continue this important discussion! Future consultations with stakeholders will include more in-depth consultations with stakeholders from specific sectors relevant to the INTERCAMBIO project and climate change and the green transition more broadly.  Future consultations will also take a more regional focus to gather perspectives regarding differential impacts on workers by country or region.
