Legal experts from across Europe met in Malmö, Sweden, on the 5th of December for the first INTERCAMBIO legal experts workshop.
Andrea Iossa of Kristianstad University presented a draft report on Sweden’s OSH regulatory landscape, with particular attention to waste and recycling workers. Angela Martin Pozuelo Lopez from the University of Valencia presented a draft report regarding the regulatory landscape of OSH in Spain with a specific focus on the outdoor construction workers, while Alena van Geen of Tilburg University presented a draft report regarding the regulatory landscape of OSH in the Netherlands, with a specific focus on healthcare workers. Marouane Laabbas el Guennouni from the European Trade Union Institute (ETUI) provided expert commentary across all presentations.
In addition to the presentations, participants agreed on several next steps with regards to the ongoing INTERCAMBIO work on a public comparative socio-legal analysis report on needed judicial innovation for a green transition that does not jeopardize a healthy work environment. This included the possibility of a follow-up workshop to allow peer review of final drafts, the subsequent presentation of a legal explainer to relevant stakeholders at the European level (possibly in Brussels) and a joint academic article combining legal analysis with socio-legal empirical findings from fieldwork.
Participants described the meeting as highly productive, expressing strong enthusiasm for the collaborative exchange and the opportunity to engage in in-depth discussions across national contexts.
