The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal), in collaboration with the Karolinska Institutet (KI) and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), are conducting a survey to gather initial insights of key stakeholders on areas related to climate change, sustainable work practices and green jobs:

  • Climate change impacts on occupational health and vulnerable workers
  • Health effects among workers in strategic industries
  • Importance of research infrastructure

Responses to the questionnaire will be a first step to inform identification of areas of research needs and ensure subsequent stakeholder consultation efforts are targeted. This survey will assist to identify potential stakeholders who will be invited for a more in-depth surveys, consultation meetings and a public workshop to identify key research priorities to inform the development of a new European health research agenda being developed in INTERCAMBIO. The questions are structured around direct climate impacts, implementation of sustainable practice and green job expansion. These include physical hazards affecting workers, organisational changes, and exposures in renewable energy and recycling sectors. Responses will be used to identify priority areas that cut across different stakeholder categories and will be explored further during workshops and in depth consultations.

This strategic research priority setting will be useful in developing the new health research agenda. Our interest in learning more about worker health and vulnerable workers will be a first step in addressing knowledge gaps, contributing to evidence-based occupational health policies, improving worker well-being and enhancing the protection of vulnerable workers.

The survey is being conducted during the first quarter of 2025.
